How we collect, use and protect your personal and credit information.
Last updated: 1 October 2026
In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Chardon Home Loans, the Ballina office: Loancheckr Finance Pty Ltd (ABN 73 634 164 925), Australian Credit Licence 517100. Chardon Home Loans is its registered business name. Our Penrith office operates separately under its own licence.
We're mortgage brokers. To help you find and apply for a loan, we need to collect and handle personal information about you. We're bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including the Australian Privacy Principles, and when we handle credit information, by Part IIIA of that Act and the Privacy (Credit Reporting) Code. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:
Sometimes we need sensitive information, such as health information when you're asking about hardship assistance or insurance, or where it appears in documents you give us. We only collect it with your consent, or where the law allows.
We don't ask for your tax file number. If a document you give us shows it, we remove it straight away, before the document is stored.
You can ask us general questions without giving your name, or using a different name. To apply for a loan, though, lenders need to identify you, so we can't arrange a loan anonymously.
Mostly from you: in meetings, on the phone, by email, and through the forms and booking tools on our website. We may also collect it, with your consent where required, from:
If we receive information about you that we didn't ask for, and we couldn't have collected it ourselves, we'll destroy or de-identify it where it's lawful and reasonable to do so.
We only use your information for these purposes, for related purposes you'd reasonably expect, with your consent, or where the law requires or allows it.
We only share what's needed, with:
We don't sell your personal information.
When we help you apply for credit, we act on behalf of the lender. While we do, the Privacy Act treats us as a credit provider, and the credit reporting rules apply to how we handle your credit information.
We may send you information about products, services and events. You can opt out at any time: use the unsubscribe link in any email, reply STOP to a text message, or contact us. Every marketing message identifies us and includes a way to opt out.
When you visit our website, we and our service providers use cookies, pixels and similar tools to understand how the site is used, measure our advertising and show relevant ads. These providers may include Google, Meta and Microsoft as we add analytics and advertising tools. The tools collect device and browsing information, which can be linked to other information about you. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and change your ad preferences in your Google, Meta and Microsoft accounts.
To measure how well our advertising works, we use the Meta Pixel and Meta's Conversions API. These load, and information is shared with Meta, only if you accept analytics cookies through our cookie banner. When they are active and you make an enquiry through our website, we may share limited information with Meta, including a securely hashed (scrambled and irreversible) version of details such as your email address and phone number, together with technical information such as your IP address and browser type. The hashing means Meta receives a coded value, not your actual contact details, and we use it only to match and measure advertising activity. We never sell your personal information.
You can decline at any time by choosing "Essential only" on our cookie banner, or by selecting "Cookie settings" in our website footer to change your choice, and you can manage your ad preferences in your Facebook and Instagram account settings. For more on how Meta handles information, see Meta's Privacy Policy. We handle your personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
We hold your information in electronic systems, including Salestrekker and other cloud services, and in paper files at our office. We take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, change or disclosure, including access controls, secure systems and staff confidentiality. We keep client records for seven years, then destroy or de-identify them securely.
If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we'll tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.
Some of our service providers store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States. When we disclose information overseas, we take reasonable steps to make sure it's handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
We don't use computer programs to make decisions about you that could significantly affect your rights or interests. A member of our team is always involved. Lenders you apply to may use automated tools in their own assessments, and their privacy policies explain how.
You can ask for access to the personal information and credit information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, using the contact details below. There's no charge to make a request. We'll respond within 30 days. If providing access involves significant work, we may charge a reasonable fee to cover it, and we'll tell you before we do. If we refuse a request, we'll explain why in writing and tell you how to complain.
If you think we've mishandled your personal or credit information, please contact our Privacy Officer first. We'll acknowledge your complaint within one business day and give you a final response within 30 days. If we need longer, we'll tell you why.
If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact:
